The COPR Database
What is the COPR Database?
Biocidal products are dangerous and can cause harm to people, animals, or the environment. As a way of avoiding such complications, the COPR Database was established. The COPR database is used to offer details on biocidal products that have been approved.
The database gives sufficient details on the approved products to help ensure that consumers do not end up buying products that will cause harm to the environment. COPR database only approves products that adhere to the Control of Pesticides Regulations. The details that are offered by the database are;
- HSE number
- Product Name
- If approved to be used in Great Britain
- The marketing company that is used
- The formula used in making the product
- Name and the concentration of the active substance
- If professionals, amateurs, of industries can use it
- How to use it and any restrictions
- The method that should be used for the application
- How it is packaged
Why You Should Visit the COPR Database?
When you visit the COPR database, you will learn about the biocidal product you are thinking of using. The information in the database will have important information like the risk of the product to:
- Human health
- Animal health
- Environment
COPR also ensures that the products are properly packaged. It is required that the packaging be done right not to be mistaken for food, drink, and feeds. It should also not be attractive to children.
When the HSE process our hard surface biocide applications, when issuing our license documentation, they inform us of the correct hazard statements, precautionary statements and hazard pictograms that should be on the label. They also raise our attention to text that should be included on the label. This can be text along the lines of “Keep Out Of Reach Of Children” and “For Professional Use Only”.
The COPR will also ensure that the packaging used in the product does not cause a chemical reaction. It also needs to have the right label for the user. They help ensure that our customers can select the correct licensed product to complete their work safely whilst protecting their customers, the general public and the environment.
